This is for all my business besties who knows they need an emergency fund, but just doesn't totally know how to start one...

Here’s what I tell my [your niche] clients to do:

1️⃣ Decide how much you want to save! A good rule of thumb is 3–6 months of average business expenses. If that sounds super intimidating, start with working your way up to just one month of expenses saved!

2️⃣ Look at your Profit & Loss statement and find out your average monthly expenses, then multiply by the number of months you want covered by your emergency fund.

3️⃣ Automate your savings method by setting aside a % of every sale or a fixed amount at the end of the month.

4️⃣ Park it in a HYSA. This keeps your funds safe, separate, and earning you passive income through interest!

You've definitely all heard of a balance sheet before... but what does one actually look like for YOUR business?

It's a snapshot of *exactly* what your business has at a certain point in time.

Your balance sheet shows:

→ What you own (assets)
→ What you owe (liabilities)
→ What’s left over for you (equity)

Ghost users are a HUGE security risk for your businesses, and you might not even know you have them! 👻

These are users who have access to your bookkeeping software but don't actually *need* it.

For example, you might still have an old employee or accountant listed as a user, but there's NO reason they should still have any access to your files.

If you have a former employee who had user access to your QuickBooks file, and you haven't deactivated them yet, please go do it RIGHT NOW!

PRO TIP: Audit your user list every quarter to ensure you're giving access *only* to the people who truly need it (like you, your bookkeeper, and your accountant).

→ I might not have any experience in their industry, so I'll help find a bookkeeper who does!

→ They’re trying to haggle down my prices. My clients value my years of experience, and in my experience, a cheap bookkeeper is going to cost you MORE in the long run.

→ Timeline expectations are off. Months or years of messy bookkeeping aren't fixed in a day! I pride myself in taking the time to get things RIGHT for my clients, and that requires an appropriate amount of time to do so.

→ They aren’t willing to separate their business + personal finances. It's totally okay if your expenses are mixed up when you come to me, but I'm going to help you get everything straightened out and separated moving forward!

In year's past I have tried to make it work with every business and have learned the hard way that is it OK to say No to a potential client.

Didn't you *just* pay estimated taxes in April?!

This might be my LEAST favorite tax deadline of all time because it always sneaks up on you.

June 16th is the estimated tax deadline for the second quarter, and if you're self-employed (or have any income that isn't subject to withholding), you probably need to pay these!

Check with your tax accountant to determine your safe harbor payment amount to avoid penalties and interest.

P.S. You can schedule payments ahead of time on the IRS website; it's the easiest way to make sure you don't miss a deadline!
