Santa isn't the only one who should be making a list (and checking it twice) this December!

It's time to start making your 1099-NEC list of any non-employees (independent contractors) you paid $600 or more to this year.

Here's what you'll want to include:

→ The names of all contractors you paid $600 or more for their services.

→ Signed W-9s from each contractor.

→ The total paid to each contractor in 2025.

While you are at it, did you pay rent? Your landlord gets a 1099-MISC. Oh, and that Lawyer you paid, they should receive a 1099-NEC (whether they are a corporation or not) for anything over $600.

Lastly, if you paid anyone via PayPal or a credit card those don't get included in your total.

Here’s what I tell my [your niche] clients to do:

1️⃣ Decide how much you want to save! A good rule of thumb is 3–6 months of average business expenses. If that sounds super intimidating, start with working your way up to just one month of expenses saved!

2️⃣ Look at your Profit & Loss statement and find out your average monthly expenses, then multiply by the number of months you want covered by your emergency fund.

3️⃣ Automate your savings method by setting aside a % of every sale or a fixed amount at the end of the month.

4️⃣ Park it in a HYSA. This keeps your funds safe, separate, and earning you passive income through interest!

Ghost users are a HUGE security risk for your businesses, and you might not even know you have them! 👻

These are users who have access to your bookkeeping software but don't actually *need* it.

For example, you might still have an old employee or accountant listed as a user, but there's NO reason they should still have any access to your files.

If you have a former employee who had user access to your QuickBooks file, and you haven't deactivated them yet, please go do it RIGHT NOW!
